I think our biggest "huh" is the fact that these worked for 6 1/2 years with the same settings, etc they have now, and then early november, they just started randomly getting print jobs stuck in *snd mode. that printer also randomly, once a week, just sits in *snd* mode. At IBM's suggestion, we made one a physical device on the iSeries as opposed to a remote outq, still no luck.

We are trying to locate a firmware update - unfortunately, these are from 2006 so unknown if we'll be able to locate them.ħ. For example, the printer may have a 10.1.1.xxx ip, where as the dhcp is handing out 10.1.101.xxxx and there are very few people using dhcp addresses, 99% of the users have a static ip of which we have verified none have been duplicated with these printers.Ħ. We do have our routers handing out dhcp addresses, however, they are in a completely different range. Sometimes we can just power recycle printer and it prints, other times we have to end the writer through OS400 and restart it before it prints.ĥ.

Was set up with an HP4 driver on iseries, but at IBM's suggestion we changed to HP5 driver (problem still occuring regardless of which we use).Ĥ. We have not made any internal infrastructure changes that any of us can recall (some users are better at documenting their changes than others - the user i'd like to ask is off today, will ask her tomorrow).ģ. Usually each printer has to be reset once a week never the same day for all of them.Ģ. They submit their job through the IBM iSeries and it submits the print job to the remote outq where it sits in *snd status until reset.

So no physical user pc has them installed on their end either. They are set up on our IBM iSeries as remote outqs. They are set up with static ip addresses on the printer (internal NIC). I'll try to respond to everyone's various questions here.ġ. Finally have you used Wireshark by chance to see the network traffic?īrief overview on Wireshark (if you haven't used it) you can see where everything is going, see where things are getting lost, how much data is being used, what protocols are being used, what websites people are viewing, who is in your network, who should be and shouldn't be in your network. Simply just look at the lights on the switch, how rapid are the flashing? How often are they flashing? Its possible you could have a network storm going on, once again data goes somewhere but never goes anywhere. Is there any STP configured on your switches? Could this be causing you to have routing loops? Data goes somewhere but goes nowhere. Now with that said lets take a look at layer 1 of the OSI model, have you checked the physical cabling? Switching out a faulty cable could be the fix, way to simple to work right? But it does at times work. Although in modern networks this should (hopefully) be unlikely but it is occasionally still implemented. nicely).Possible problem here could be increased traffic on the network and the use of a hub instead of a switch although this is unlikely if multiple users are streaming any sort of data in a hub network you're going to have data hitting data, which causes more data to hit data, and in a larger network things could lock up. I've tried my best to work around various issues, but not being able to change a print queue's IP address is going to be the last straw (if it turns out you can't edit it. I know this probably isn't the best way to go about asking for assistance, but I've just about had enough of dealing with the Mac's rather poor support from a system administrator's perspective. well, I'm probably going to A) take to all of them with a baseball bat or B) well and truly tell my boss that I've had enough of the Macs' recalcitrance and tell our teachers that Apples are no good for anybody but Grandma and Grandpa.
If I have to log into 24 Macs and delete three print queues and re-add three new print queues with the new IP address.
Under the "Printer Setup." for a particular printer, and under the "Name and Location" I can see a non-editable field listing the "Queue Name" as "ġ92_168_xx" but it won't allow me to change this.

How do I change the IP address for a printer in the "Printer & Fax" preference pane? I need to change some printers from .x to 172.17.x.x but I can't figure out how to edit this setting.
